During lockdown for COVID-19 everyone, and I mean everyone has been focusing on their skincare routine. I mean, I am sick of seeing the tweets that say 'if you don't come out of lockdown with clear skin what were you doing', but truthfully my skin has been the worst it has ever been. I have experienced breakout after breakout despite eating the healthiest I ever have, exercising more and drinking lots of water. The audacity of my skin!! After getting a bit fed up of the situation, I decided to look into my skin care OGs and let you know what products I have been using which have really helped.

I'll start this post by stating that throughout my teenage years my skin was an absolute dream to me. This isn't me intending to brag, however I didn't suffer from acne and I was extremely fortunate that I didn't suffer from many breakouts either. Now I am nearing 25, my skin has decided to punish me for all those lovely years and is hitting back in full force. Luckily, we now have years of skincare blogs and YouTube videos to trawl through to get the products and tips to combat this difficult time.

My skin reacts really well to natural skincare and products with natural ingredients. I tend to try and avoid the bigger chemical skincare brands that are usually stocked in the supermarkets (not including Boots or any of the beauty stores in this) for that very reason. For my cleanser, I started using Liz Earle around 2 years ago when Andy's parents kindly got me a huge skincare set for Christmas and I have been obsessed with their cleanse and polish ever since.

The cleanse & polish has a very creamy texture and little 20p size piece is more than enough to do your whole face. You just rub the cleanser into your skin in circular motions, I normally give my skin a little massage whilst doing this and then use a sponge/muslin cloth and hot water with to remove. This cleanser also has a built in gentle exfoliant which means you don't have to use heavy exfoliating products which may irritate your skin. The cleanser contains witch hazel and I find it really soothes my angry skin and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth.

Liz Earle also do a lovely exfoliator, which I do use for the days when I feel my skin is looking a bit dull and I need to get rid of some extra dead skin cells. The exfoliator is rather gentle on the skin but has a great exfoliating action that does brighten your skin and remove excess dead cells. My skin always feels rejuvenated but not irritated, which I think can be really hard to find in exfoliators as I usually react badly.

Moving on to toners, I was always sceptical about these products and used to leave it out of my skin care routine but truthfully I was missing a trick. The toner helps remove excess dirt, traces of oil and any make-up which is so important to prevent breakouts. I have been using Evoluderm's Rose Lotion Tonique but I have found it rather drying on my skin. I have now changed up my toner routine and I use the Evoluderm toner on my nose area as this is exceptionally oily and I then use the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic on the rest of my face. A bit unorthodox, but I have found this really works for my skin and have helped reduce extra breakouts that I was seeing prior to using a toner.

Moving on to a real problem area for my skin - Dark Circles - I genuinely look like a raccoon 24/7 regardless of how much or how little sleep I have had. I got the Liz Earle Eyebright soothing eye lotion as a tester and have been using this product on and off for when my under eye bags get so large they could carry my shopping. I tend to lightly soak two re-usable cotton pads in the lotion and place over my eyes for 15 minutes to help relax and soothe them as long days working can really have an effect. If I am in a rush I tend to the pad to lightly sweep my under eye area and then leave it to air dry. I really notice a difference after around two days and my eyes tend to look brighter for a week or so before needing to treat again.

For moisturisers I have really struggled at the moment, I have combination skin which then goes very dry. I haven't been able to balance this despite switching between and then using two moisturisers in combination with each other. I have been trying to use the Soap & Glory Beauty sleep accelerator Flight & Night cream for the dryness and then a water based light moisturiser by Revolution. I haven't seen two much of an improvement yet, but I have read that it can take a few weeks for skincare to actually work. If that fails I intend to switch back to the Liz Earle skin repair moisturiser as that was recommended to me for combination skin.

I must admit I am extremely impressed with the Liz Earle skincare range and I haven't, yet, found anything that quite beats it for my skin. That being said, skin does change and I have no doubt there are some other products out there that may be better suited but I haven't yet tested the other bits and pieces I have picked up enough to be able to say whether they are working for me or not and I don't like to recommend things that haven't been tried and tested by myself.

Hopefully, this post has been insightful for those of you who are experiencing the same skincare difficulties I am and if you have any products you can recommend me which you have seen improve your skin please drop me a comment below as I love to hear from you!

Until Next Time
