If you have followed me on Social Media recently you will know we are in the midst of sick season in our house. Nursery bugs are rife, I have an awful immune system and even Steve is getting taken down by the bugs. Whilst scrolling on Instagram I got dragged down a rabbit hole and I stumbled across a recipe for turmeric immunity shots. I tried them and they were awful. But I loved the idea behind them. I started researching all of the beneficial ingredients and tried numerous variations of several recipes before I found the quantities that I feel make the nicest tasting turmeric shot. Of course, my favoured variations may not be yours so I would suggest you mess around with the quantities until you find your perfect blend.
For this recipe, you'll need:
- One tablespoon of ground turmeric
- Eight ounces of orange juice (I used 250ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (required as an active ingredient)
- One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
- Half a small root of ginger
- Optional - an ice cube tray
Now for the really easy bit, add all of your ingredients into your blender (we just use our nutribullet) and blend on high until you have a smooth mixture and are happy with the consistency. Then it is up to you how you store your immunity shots - some people have stored them in lovely glass bottles and take the shot every morning. If you chose to do this method I would recommend you make sure you drink your mixture within the next 7 days.
I found the silicone ice cube tray shown above at ASDA, as I wanted silicone to make it easier to pop out the frozen immunity shots. I also did not want to stain our other ice cube trays as turmeric does stain so be careful with the mixture!
We made 14 immunity shots from the above mixture. I would suggest using two cubes with just enough hot water to melt the shots. Of course, if you find your mixture too strong additional hot water will be great for weakening the mixture.
We haven't been having these shots daily, but we've certainly been using them when we've felt as if we're coming down with something. Do I think they're a miracle cure - the Jury is still out on that one and more testing is required. But, I do think they're a lovely warm drink when you're feeling a bit blah and whether its a placebo or not, they definitely make me feel a bit better!
What I love about this recipe is that you can add additional ingredients such as pineapple chunks or juice to change the flavour whilst still keeping all the immunity boosting properties. If you've tried out this lovely recipe I'd love to know and please let me know what variations you try so I can check those out too!
I hope you're all having a wonderful start to November and beginning to get that festive feeling!
Until Next Time
